Concept Mapping - Ankle Injury Management

http://www.mywebspiration.com/view/610047a697c

Here's the concept map I created of the Management of an Ankle Injury. I really liked the ease and simplicity of Inspiration to design it, I only wish I was more adept at it. Oh well, I guess that's why we're doing this. It'll come with practice.

Probably my favortite aspect of this app is how it lets me see everything in my head in front of me displayed in something other than just words on a page. I'm a pretty visual person, and seeing them in a clear, mapped-out representation just clicks with me and I would guess quite a few other people. Sometimes I get so much information on a topic that it becomes hard for me to explain or relay it to others, or to put it in the proper order for myself.

Athletic training (and athletic training education) is pretty much predicated on performing the right steps in the right order. Injuries are sent through prescribed care progressions, rehab sessions are as well (although they are more like recommended protocols than specific, step-by-step "cookbook" instructions). It's nice to represent all of the protocols and their alternative off-shoots with a diagram.

As a future educator, this is a great simplifier for me. It gives a set plan for teaching a topic that allows me to move step by step through it. It's practically idiot proof (which I think helps me out a lot).

I remember when i had my first blog...

Hello. How bout that ride in?

So here is my first foray into the world of blogging. I guess I've never really been interested in blogs before, both the reading and the writing of them. I'm not the kind of person who really feels that my thoughts and opinions are important enough to be expressed online in an informal forum. Also, I'm not one who believes in reading about other random people's opinions and thoughts that they think are appealing. I'm also not a fan of the informality in general. I'm the kind of person who at least tries to appear like I have a decent grasp upon grammar, even when I have to fake it ;) So I've had my reasons for taking this long to jump into the blogging game.

I've softened up my stance as of late, especially as i've progressed through this class. I've always been a little wary of technology. I kind of see the different uses for such a tool that are behind my previous negative, nearsighted beliefs about them. (Such as relaying the stories of a semester studying abroad back home, entertainment purposes, etc). Hopefully I can start to find some even better uses as the semester goes on.
